SY 2012 – 2013

John F. Kennedy High School’s mission is to develop our island students to become globally primed high achievers.

Our ESLRs:  John F. Kennedy High School students will be responsible citizens, problem solvers, effective communicators, and technologically literate.

JFKHS Public Hearing for FY2014 Budget will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 6:00p.m. in the school cafeteria.  Please join us to share your input.

ATTENTION JFK COMMUNITY

• Want your car sparkly clean?  The JFKHS Nursing Club will be having a carwash at Agana McDonald’s on Sunday, November 18 from 9am-4pm. Tickets are $5 and you may purchase it from any club member.  Hope to see you there!!!
• Japanese Club Carwash at Harmon McDonald’s this Sunday, November 18. Please support!
• WAVE Club:  Register for the Jingle Bell 2K and 5K Run and Walk on Sat, Nov 24, 2012.  Showtime is at 5:15 am and go time is at 6:00 am. Registration includes a free t-shirt and a chance to win great raffle prizes including 2 round trip tickets to Hong Kong.  There will also be prizes for best costume!  Register with Mrs. Lorie Montague or any WAVE Club member in A207.
• First Quarter Report Cards may be picked up in the counseling office before school, during break, lunch, and after school.  No passes during instructional time will be accepted.  
• It takes a village and YOU to stop illegal dumping! Join us in a clean-up on Saturday November 17th from 8 AM until around 10 AM in Dededo. Follow Marine Corps towards Yigo turn left on Bartolu Rd past the Dededo Transfer Station and past GICC (Guam International Country Club) to the end of the road! See you there! • The Close-Up Student Organization will be having a bottled water drive from November 5-November 19 to assist Kamilian Kiridat, a non-profit group that feeds the homeless daily.  Bottled water is to be dropped off in room D203 during lunch time only.  Thank you for your support!

CLUB NEWS

• WAVE Club: Come join WAVE!  Meetings are held every Wednesday during lunch in A207.
• INTERACT meeting:  Thursday, November 15 in A210.  Get a pass; bring your lunch.  See you there!
• FEA:  Do you LOVE teaching?  Come join Future Educators Association.  Meetings are held every Thursday during lunch in A205.
• INTERFAITH BIBLE CLUB: Students please join us on Mondays [Green/odd days only] during lunch in Room D111 to open the Bible and study it.  All questions and ideas are welcome.
• Nursing Club: Meetings on Thursdays during the first half on lunch in D215.
• CHAMORU CULTURAL DANCE practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 – 3:30. If you have questions, please see Sinot Terlaje in F101.
• Tourism Hospitality Society (THS) meetings are held Fridays during Lunch @ G104 (ProStart) class.

ATTENTION STUDENTS

• Pregnant students please report to the Nursing Office to register and update status.
• Students taking prescribed medication or has a medical condition must report to the Nurse.
• Feeling grateful for a friend? Want to grace them with a healthy snack? The National Honor Society is selling Trail Mix Grams for ONLY $2.00! Buy one from any NHS member until Nov 20!
• All issues pertaining to student portrait packets must call the vendor Mr. Mapote at 777-2443.
• All issues pertaining to student IDs, please Mr. Labrador in D117.
• SENIORS:  Portrait listings are located at the C Building and on the class website jfkhs2013.weebly.com.Directions to the studio are also on the website. Please remember your scheduled date to take your senior portraits. Skipping your scheduled date without contacting the photographer, Mr. Mapote, will result in a $20 fee. For those who plan on rescheduling their senior portraits, there is a possibility that your pictures will not be put into the yearbook. So please be ready for your scheduled date. Thank you! 
• SENIORS:Cap and Gown purchases at Gino's are ongoing. Last days to purchase is in December. 
• ISLANDERS! November 13-15 is Spirit Week! You must be in uniform but you may accessorize:
  -Thursday: 70's  Accessorize in colorful head scarves and peace signs!
  -Friday: 90's Accessorize in spiked hair, spiked accessories, and blazers!
• Don't forget Islanders "The Decades" WAY Picnic is Saturday November 17, 2012 from 9:00AM-3:00PM in Pavilions E1, E2, E3, and F1, F2 at Ypao Beach (GVB Side)! Reminder, this is an Islander event. No outside guests are allowed!
• Vivace is selling spirit shirts displaying headphones and a heart with the Vivace logo.  T-shirts cost $12 for 1, but if you buy 2 or more…they’re $12 each!!! Shirts come in black, light gray, navy, or dark gray! To place your order…please see any Vivace Senior or visit the Choir Room (D101).
• The Class of 2014 will be hosting a Thanksgiving Dance, “Harvest Moonlight,” on November 21 at 6 – 10pm at the JFK cafeteria. Tickets will be $2 pre-sold and $4 at the door.  Purchase your tickets from any class of 2014 officer or visit C201.  Hope to see you there!
• Are you interested in running for Royal Court for the Class of 2014’s “Harvest Moonlight” dance? Please see Nari Kim for a contract – 20% of collected funds go to your graduating class so sign up today!  First counting is this Thursday after school before 1:30pm.
• Are you grateful for a friend, teacher, family member, or anyone who has made a difference in your life?  Then thank them by buying a November “Thank You” gram from the Class of 2015. You can choose a yellow rose or sunflower for $4 each and a personal message is optional. Flowers can be bought from any class officer, committee member, or in B213 through November 16^th.
• Are you hungry after school? Do you want food at reasonable prices? Then the C/O 2015 is here to satisfy your appetite! C/O 2015 is selling snacks and drinks after school near the front entrance daily!
• School IDs: If you haven’t taken your picture for your student ID, you can contact the photographer at 777-2443 to schedule an appointment.  IDs are now $10 if you haven’t taken your picture. Payment can be made on Wednesdays during lunch in D117.
• NHS will be offering tutoring sessions from Monday to Friday, except Wednesdays, during lunch in B210. After school tutoring will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 230pm in B210.
• Are you prepared to witness the epic phenomenon of Twilight’sBreaking Dawn Part 2???  Buy your tickets from any of the Japanese or Nursing Club member or go to Rooms D215 or F102.  Tickets are $10.00; comes with great food deals! You do not want to miss this!!!
• Class of 2K14:  You may start to pre-order your class shirts for $12; may be paid to any class officer or advisor.  The class of 2K14 is also selling school spirit shirts for $12.  Designs will be posted throughout the campus.  Order forms are available from any officer or in Room B107 or C201.
• Slam your thoughts, release your mind, use your voice and spit some rhymes.  Check out the Sinangan-ta Youth Movement Workshops Mondays after school with John “Metaforce” Sarmiento from 2-3:30pm in D118. Hope to see you there and bring your creative minds with you!
• I-Yearbooks are NOW available for pre-order!!! Please see a Yearbook staff member to pick up a pre-order slip.  Staff members will not be collecting money.  When making payments, please see Mr. Labrador in D117 during the first half of lunch every Wednesday.  Thank you for your support!
• College Access Challenge Grant Program: Tutors will be in the Library during lunch weekly on Tues, Wed, and Thurs.  This is for CACGP participants and students in need of tutoring services.

FACULTY AND STAFF

• We are in need of teachers for Eskuelan Puengi.  Applications are available online or at our Personnel Office in Hagatna.  Please see Dr. Adamos if you have any questions.
• The Teacher Laptops issued through DOE is anticipated to be here for distribution before the Christmas break. In order for teachers to receive a laptop they must complete technology training.  Those that have previously taken Gateway to Success at UOG have met the requirement.  Those that still needed training are taking PowerSchool Distance Learning training.  The Training currently available is online training.  It is free and available 24/7 for teachers to take the courses.  They are approximately 1 hour in length.  Three modules are required.  Please send all requests for training to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .  An email from Deputy Superintendent Malay was sent out on Nov 06.
• Senior Teachers: Staff Sgt. Leon Guerrero is requesting for 30-100 minutes to speak to our kids about the ROTC scholarship.  Please contact him at 472-1775 if you would like him to speak to your class.
• Please remember to conserve power and resources as much as possible!!!

COUNSELING OFFICE

• Lady islanders ages 14-17 years old, you are eligible for the Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award (VRA).  You must be currently an active volunteer in your community and school.  This award is for young ladies actively trying to make our world and community a better place.  See Mr. Ballares or your counselor for more info.  Deadline to apply is December 1, 2012.
• SENIORS:  If you received a letter regarding your credits from your counselor, please submit the signed bottom portion by Friday, November 16.
• The Marine Corps is offering an all expense ROTC Scholarship ($ for school, housing and food) for Seniors!  Please contact Staff Sgt Leon Guerrero at 472-1775 to set up an appointment for an interview.
• College Access Challenge Grant Program (CACGP) participants, please join us on Sat, Nov 17 at the Outrigger Hotel from 9:00am-2:00pm for High School PD Day. Learn about teamwork and leadership skills, career planning, financial aid process and more. This event will include light breakfast, lunch and snacks. Please see Ms. Nanpei, GCC Counselor, in the Counseling Office to confirm your attendance.
• The GCA has four scholarships for Seniors interestedattending the Guam Construction Trades Academy.  It is worth $2,500 to the recipients of this scholarship.  Applications can be picked up in the Counseling Office. See Mr. Ballares or Mrs. Chargualaf.
