John F. Kennedy High School’s mission is to develop our island students to become globally primed high achievers.

Our ESLRs: John F. Kennedy High School students will be responsible citizens, problem solvers, effective communicators, and technologically literate.

ATTENTION EVERYONE

  • Effective immediately, if you are absent, you are to submit your excuse notes to the Student Support Services Office (SSSO) between 6:00-6:55 A.M., break, or lunch.  Students have a three-day grace period to provide excuse notes.  No admit slips issued with the revised homeroom procedures this semester.  
  • Sandra McKeever, a financial advisor at Asia Pacific will be here at JFK on (Mon.-Wed)Jan. 30, 31 and Feb 1.  She will be at the faculty lounge at lunch time from 10:45am-11:35am. Asia Pacific offers retirement plans (403b, IRAs, College saving plans, Insurance and more).  Please come and visit the teacher’s lounge and she will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

  • FUTURE EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION: Meetings are every Thursday in A202 during lunch.
  • MARINE DEFENDERS: Meetings are Thursday at lunchtime.
  • JAPANESE CLUB: Meetings every Wed in F202.
  • I-Recycle Club: Meetings every Wednesday at Lunch in Room D223.
  • Filipino Club (UFSA): Meetings every Thursday at Lunch in Room D223.
  • Tourism Hospitality Society will be holding its regular meetings every Friday during lunch in Room G104.
  • Robotics Club will be holding its regular meetings every Thursday during lunch in Room D114.
  • WAVE CLUB: Welcome All Visitors Enthusiastically! Meetings will be held every Wednesday in room A207.
  • MICRONESIAN YOUTH CLUB meeting every Wednesday during lunch in room F104.
  • Creations Art Club: Meeting every Thurs in D103 or for more info please see Mr. Quinata.
  • INTERFAITH BIBLE CLUB: meetings held every Monday during lunch in D218. Come read and discuss the Bible!
  • AUTOMOTIVE CLUB: meetings will be held every Wednesday during lunch in G103.

ATTENTION STUDENTS:

  • WAY is having a poster and essay contest for Kennedy Celebration! This year’s theme is “Children are the World’s most Valuable Resource and its’ Best Hope for the Future.” See jfkislanders.com or your English teacher for more details. Posters and essays are due on February 3! There will be prizes for the winners!
  • STUDENTS: The I’Ayudon Mane’lu After-school ESL Program is scheduled to start on January 31. Please turn in your parent letter to your ESL teacher or ESL Coordinator ASAP!!! This will be on a “first come-first serve” basis. The program can only serve only 20 students. Reliable transportation is a must.
  • JFKHS presents our 51st anniversary Kennedy Celebration on February 3, 2012. Information is forthcoming!
  • SENIORS: Report to the Nursing Office to update immunization/medical records during break and lunch.
  • PREGNANT STUDENTS: Please report to the Nursing Office to register and update status.
  • SPIRIT DAYS on Friday: Students who are members of Clubs/Organizations, JROTC or student athletes for the Quarter may wear their sponsored organization shirt on Fridays. Students are NOT allowed to wear just any JFK t-shirt. If so, you are violating the criteria for Spirit Day and will be disciplined accordingly.
  • The John F. Kennedy High School Class of 2013 proudly presents their annual talent show competition, “GOT TALENT? 2.” See some of the finest youth talent battle it out in song, dance, and poetry at the GATE Theater on Saturday, January 28, 2012. Pre-sold tickets are $8.00 and tickets at the door will be $10.00. Prizes will be raffled that night. See any class of 2013 Office or member for tickets. WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
  • SAVE THE DATE! GET READY! The Sweethearts’ Ball “Love in Las Vegas” is just around the corner! It will be held from 6 pm – 10 pm at the Marriott Hotel, Chamorro Ballroom on February 4. Class of 2014 is hosting the annual ball and will be selling tickets in D113 during lunch. Prices are $26 for singles and $50 for couples.
  • Would you like to take home the crown for King or Queen at this years’ Sweethearts’ Ball? If so, stop by D113 during lunch and pick up an application to run for Royal Court! You’ll never know if you will become the King and Queen of Hearts for this years’ Sweethearts Ball Love in Las Vegas!
  • Do you have a voice, dance moves, or any gift that you would like to perform at the Sweethearts’ Ball? If so, stop by room D113 during lunch to get an application to audition! Your performance is greatly needed!
  • ALL STUDENTS must exit the JFK campus no later than 2:00 p.m. unless you have prior authorization. Students will be disciplined accordingly if they continue to violate this rule.
  • LOCK OUT will commence this month. Students must be prompt to class.
  • RANDOM SEARCH will begin ASAP. Students do not bring illegal/prohibited items to JFK; you will be disciplined.

FACULTY AND STAFF:

  • Night School (Eskuelan Puengi) teacher interviews continue this week.  Once you are notified of your hire, please note that a mandatory parent and student orientation will be held on Monday, Feb. 6th at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria.  The first day of Eskuelan Puenggi is Tuesday, Feb. 7th.  
  • JFK is a secured and closed campus; if you wish to enter the campus on the weekends, you MUST obtain prior permission from the administration at least 2 days in advance. Please see Ms. Gutierrez or Mrs. T. Cruz.
  • BUSINESS OFFICE: If you request supplies/equipment or maintenance work and you do not receive any feedback after 3 days, please help us out and follow up with our office. Thank you, Mrs. T. Cruz.
  • Science Teachers, if you have students interested in research and getting exposure to working in a scientific setting, please refer them to the NIDDK program. The last day to register for this program is February 15.
  • TEACHERS: DO NOT LEAVE ANY student(s) unsupervised in your classroom at anytime, especially during lunch. If you leave your room at lunch, all students must exit and proceed to the student areas.
  • Emergency Response (ER) Training will take place soon. Training date and time will be forthcoming.
  • CLUB/ORGANIZATION ADVISORS: 2nd Quarter ends January 20. YOU MUST verify and balance your ledger with the school ledger between now and January 30. This is stated in JFK’s NAF SOP. If you do not do this, fundraising events for your club/organization will be suspended until further notice. Also, if you did not submit the names of your club/organization officers, please do so immediately.

FROM THE COUNSELORS:

  • Night School (Eskuelan Puengi) registration is ongoing for Seniors, Juniors, and Sophomores and ends on Friday, Feb., 3rd.  See your counselor.  Mandatory parent and student orientation will be held on Monday, Feb. 6th at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria.  The first day of Eskuelan Puengi is Tuesday, Feb. 7th.
  • Schedule requests or adjustments must be completed by Friday, Jan 27. 
  • Seniors, Electronics & Automotive career path students!  UTI-theUniversalTechnical Institute will be holding a seminar at the Media Center on Thursday March 15 for seniors and technical career path students wanting to attend their prestigious school.  Sign up with Mr. Ballares in the counseling office if you would like to attend this seminar.  Deadline to sign up is Mon, March 12.  There will be sign up slots per each block on that day.
  • JUNIORS AND SENIORS: The STEP-UP High School Program provides hands-on summer research experience for High School students interested in exploring research careers in the biomedical, behavioral, clinical and social sciences. The program provides exposure to the core NIDDK mission areas of diabetes, endocrinology and metabolic diseases; digestive diseases and nutrition; kidney, urologic and hematologic diseases.   The deadline to apply is Feb. 15, 2012. See your counselor or Science teacher for more info.
  • SENIORS: January 1, 2012 was the first day to submit your FAFSA form online, please do so before March in order to get money for college. Remember, first come, first served!
  • UOG APPLICATION INFO: Students can apply to UOG and pay online now: www.uog.edu. Students must apply before they can take the placement test in the Spring. Go to www.uog.edu
  • KFC Scholarship. $20K. Financial need and entrepreneurial spirit. Will attend UOG. www.kfcscholars.org. Deadline 2/08.
