John F. Kennedy High School’s mission is to develop our island students to become globally primed high achievers.

- WANT TO REGISTER TO VOTE? JFK CAN HELP! If you are a United States citizen residing in Guam for at least 30 days and you will be 18 years old by the date of the election, you may be eligible. Please visit the MAIN OFFICE for more details!
- Please be aware that beginning 3rd quarter, January 23, there will be a change in the bell schedule. Bell schedule will be posted shortly. Parent letters will be given to students today. Thank you.
CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS
- YEARBOOK Club will be having its first meeting of the year this Friday, January 6 in the Bandroom. We hope to see you there. Welcome back!
- Chinese Cultural Club (CCC): Meeting every Friday at Lunch in A205.
- Calling all ARTISTS! The Creations Art Club will be having meetings every Thursday in D103. There will be a guest speaker coming in this month. More information will be announced soon!
- You like racks or enjoy a good game of pool? Come join the Billiards Club! Show your talent and skills or even try to become the very best. Meetings are on WEDNESDAYS in Rm B201.
- FUTURE EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION: Are you interested in becoming a teacher? Join the Future Educators Association NOW! Meetings are every Thursday in A202 during lunch. See you there!
- MARINE DEFENDERS: Meetings are Thursday at lunchtime.
- JAPANESE CLUB: Meetings every Wed in F202. Serious members who want to help fundraise and may partake in the Japan trip are invited to attend. Club participation will determine one’s eligibility to take part in the Japan trip.

ATTENTION STUDENTS:
- ALL JFKHS students! YEARBOOK will be verifying your name and grade level during lunch time from Wednesday January 11th-Friday January 13th. If you don't come in to verify your name and picture, we are not held responsible for any typos or mistakes. The schedule is as follows: Freshmen will be seen on Wed. (1/11), Sophomores will be seen on Thurs. (1/12), Juniors will be seen on Fri. (1/13) and Seniors will be announced at a later date. If you also have concerns regarding your picture packages this year, please come during your scheduled time. See Mr. Ballares, Mr. Labrador or any Yearbook staff for further inquires-Year Book Team
- If anyone finds a Coach Wristlet with the colors of beige, pink, and green containing a Princeton USB, photo ID and Military ID and OTHER PRICELESS items, please return to Maggie Baza or Ms. Mel Q. in the Main Office. A NICE reward will be provided to you!
- There will not be any NHS tutoring from January 17 – 20 due to exam week.
- *JUNIORS AND SENIORS: The STEP-UP High School Program provides hands-on summer research experience for High School students interested in exploring research careers in the biomedical, behavioral, clinical and social sciences. The program provides exposure to the core NIDDK mission areas of diabetes, endocrinology and metabolic diseases; digestive diseases and nutrition; kidney, urologic and hematologic diseases. If interested, the deadline to apply is Feb. 15, 2012. See your Science teacher, counselor, or Dr. Roberto- Assistant Principal- for more information.
- SENIORS: Class shirts are now being pre-sold for $12. Purchase your shirt and represent your class! Please see Secretary Artken Cada for more information or go to B213 during lunch.
- ALL STUDENTS: The Sinangan-ta Youth Movement will be holding Poetry Slam Workshops every Tuesday (11/29) after school from 2:00 – 3:30pm in D212.
- Yearbooks are now available for reserve for $35. You may place an order during lunch in D118 every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday OR see any yearbook staff. Reserve your copy while supplies last!
FACULTY AND STAFF:
- We are pleased to announce the ESL Afterschool Program, I'Ayudon Mane'lu, pilot designed for academically challenged students in the ESL program. The objective of this federally-funded program is to increase academic English of ESL students, needed to comprehend content area subjects. The program will run for 1.5 hours/ 3x a week TWTH, for a total of 4.5 hours a week, beginning January 24 thru May 31, 2012. If you are an ESL-certified teacher and are interested in the program, you will need to complete an employment application at the Personnel Services Division. Additionally, a high school/college student will serve as natural supports and tutor students who are currently being served by the program. Please see Mrs. Rosete or Ms. Tomasiak for more information.
- CLUB/ORGANIZATION ADVISORS: 2nd Quarter ends January 20. YOU MUST verify and balance your ledger with the school ledger between now and January 30. This is stated in JFK’s NAF SOP. If you do not do this, fundraising events for your club/organization will be suspended until further notice. Also, if you did not submit the names of your club/organization officers, please do so immediately.
- Science Teachers, if you have students interested in research and getting exposure to working in a scientific setting, please refer them to the NIDDK program. The last day to register for this program is fast approaching.
- The Special Education Department will be offering a workshop on January 13, 1:30 – 2:30 in the Media Center. The topic is, “Understanding, Applying, and Teaching ALL Students.”
- FYI: Effective immediately, Dr. Kelly Sukola will be conducting her administration internship with the JFKHS Administration Leadership Team. Please give her your upmost respect and cooperation as she will be working closely with the administrators, teachers, and staff until the end of the school year.
- ANY AND ALL FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES MUST BE APPROVED BY THE ADMINISTRATORS. Student activities (chartered clubs/organizations) and Standing Committees MUST seek the approval of Mrs. Rosete and Ms. Gutierrez. Athletics MUST seek the approval of Mrs. Hanzsek and Ms. Gutierrez. If appropriate signatures are not obtained, the activity is PROHIBITED and ma y result in disciplinary action. See Ms. Gutierrez if you have questions.
- JOB ANNOUNCEMENT for the following programs: 2011-2012 Eskuelen Puengi, 2011-2012 Summer School, and 2011-2012 Special Education Summer ESY. Certified Teachers (all areas), school counselors and school health counselors (subject areas will be determined by the Programs). Opening date: 11/15/11 and closing: continuous. FROM THE COUNSELORS:
- SENIORS: January 1, 2012 was the first day to submit your FAFSA form online, please do so before March in order to get money for college. Remember, first come, first served!
- Attention ALL Students! If you signed up for the ASVAB, come pick up your ticket with Mr. Ballares in the counseling office before this Friday January 6. The ASVAB will be administered next week from Monday January 9-Friday January 13. There are a few slots left.
- UOG APPLICATION INFO: Students can apply to UOG and pay online now: www.uog.edu. Students must apply before they can take the placement test in the Spring. Go to www.uog.edu. Menu option: "Students," drop down menu: "Online Application."
- Asian & Pacific Islander Scholarship. $$$ for College. Deadline Jan 13.
- KFC Scholarship. $20,000. Financial need and entrepreneurial spirit. Will attend UOG. www.kfcscholars.org. Deadline 2/08.
- JUNIORS AND SENIORS: The University Honors College (UHC) at Boston University is looking for a few exceptional students interested in Biomedical Engineering, Music Performance, English, Astronomy and Physics, and Human Physiology. For more information visit bu.edu/uhc.
