ACCREDITATION HISTORY
The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) has regularly visited JFKHS to evaluate
the school, examining the curriculum offered, teacher competency, administrative effectiveness,
adherence to the mission statement and ESLR's, and a lot of other areas. Accreditation is important
because it means that WASC is certifying that the school offers a valid education experience, on a par
with other high schools in the western states. In recent years, the school has struggled with
accreditation, as the following shows:
1986 -- Initial accreditation for a six-year term (the highest you can get)
1993 -- Accreditation for another six-year term
1996 -- Mid-term visit with reaffirmation of accreditation
1999 -- Accreditation for three-year term
2002 -- Accreditation for three-year term
2005 -- Accreditation for a two-year term
2007 -- Accreditation for a one-year term
Based on that review, they may recommend accreditation for a three-year term -- the maximum
possible at this point.
