ATTENTION STUDENTS:
 

·             The Yearbook Class/Staff has been left short-handed second semester.  If you would like to help with the 2010 Yearbook, we need students to:  build covers (Photoshop); photograph sports, activities, clubs, etc.; and sell ads & yearbooks.  Your help will be greatly appreciated.  If interested, see Mr. Harper in E205 (period 1 & 3) or D102 (periods 2, 4, 5, & 6).

·             The 2010 JFK Yearbook is on sale for $60.  This price is only good through Feb. 28th, then the price goes up Mar. 1st.  The Senior Class is responsible for buying 300 yearbooks.  Buy now, and avoid the rush! 

·             3rd quarter Athletes:  It is mandatory to submit completed attendance checks the day of your game, or the day before if your game falls on Saturday.  Also, bi-weekly progress reports must be submitted.  See any of the Facility Planning students in H102 during break, lunch, or 15 minutes after school.  Failure to do so will result in a one game suspension. 

·             The JFKHS PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) is having a logo contest.  Winner will receive a monetary prize.  PTSA needs a logo that represents its partnership with teachers, students, parents, and the administration.  See your any of your teachers for the contest rules and regulations

·             The Class of 2010 is selling “Rebuild JFK Now” t-shirts in C102 during lunch.  Cost is $10 for the black and green shirts, and $8 for the white shirt.  Buy one today, show your Islander spirit, and help save JFK.

·             The Class of 2012 presents the 2010 Sweethearts’ Ball entitled “Love at First Site” to be held at the Matapang Ballroom in the Holiday Resort & Spa on Feb. 13th from 6:30pm – 11pm.  Tickets are $26 for single, and $50 for a couple.  See any 2012 class officer for details. 

·             The Class of 2012 is selling Rose Grams for $3.50.  Pre-order your grams with any 2012 class officer.  Rose Grams will be beautifully wrapped and include a message card.   

·             Islander singers:  If you are interested in being a part of Vivace, JFK's Honor Choir, for school year 2010-2011, please sign up as soon as possible in H101 to schedule a tryout date. Auditions begin Feb. 8th through Feb. 19th only. First come, first served. Don't miss out on this chance. 

·             Ready to dance the night away?  The Boy’s and Girls’ Basketball Teams are sponsoring a dance this Fri., Feb. 5th from 6:30pm – 11:00pm at the Tiyan gym.  Pre-sold tickets are $3 and $5 at the door.  See any basketball team player or Ms. Basilio in C104 for tickets. 

·             Calling out all Islanders!  Do you want to be part of the dance competition during the dance this Fri., Feb. 5th sponsored by the Boy’s and Girls’ Basketball Teams?  Please sign up in C104 by lunch Friday. 

·             Juniors & Seniors:  Are you interested in learning about Guam Community College’s Postsecondary Programs?  Come and listen to presentations on Culinary Arts, Criminal Justice, Computer Networking, Financial Aid, and Admissions in the Media Center on Thurs., Feb. 18th during 1st and 2nd blocks.  Sign up with Ms. Nanpei or Ms. Blend. 

·             The Spanish Club is meeting this Fri., Feb. 5th during lunch in D204.  Officers and members are requested to attend. 

 

ATTENTION SENIORS: 

·            If you have any outstanding book obligation from previous classes, please see Mina Palas in the Business Office as soon as possible to clear your obligations. 

·            Senior Prom / Coronation planning committee meets on Thursdays during lunch in B202.  Be informed; get involved.

·            Graduation Committee meetings are held on Fridays during lunch in J207.  If you would like to be a part of the graduation planning process, please attend these meetings. 

·            Class officers are pre-selling t-shirts for the final order of the year.  Pre-order your $12 t-shirt with any of the class officers during lunch at the amphitheater.

SCHOLARSHIPS: (See your counselor for details)

·             Attention Juniors and Seniors- Scholarship opportunity with the Adkins Foundation.  See your counselor for more information.  Deadline is Feb. 12, 2010.

·             Businesswoman of the Year Scholarship – 3.0 GPA, financial need, activities, community service, and an essay.  Deadline is July 31, 2010. 

PROGRAMS:  (See your counselor for details)

·             Accel Exchange College Grant.  Criteria – GPA, leadership, and financial need.  Deadline is Mar. 15, 2010.

·             Pacific Island/Alaska Native Summer Internship Program (PI/AN SIP) is now accepting applications on-line. Visit <http://SIP.niddk.nih.gov> for more information.  Deadline is Feb. 15, 2010. 

·             Step-Up Summer Scientific Research:  Online applications accepted now through Feb. 15, 2010.  A wonderful opportunity for an islander or low income students to travel to Maryland this summer for science lab research.  All expenses will be paid with a $2,300 stipend.

·             U.S. Military Academy Summer Leaders Seminar.  Deadline is April 1, 2010.

·             Juniors:  Applications are available for the West Point Summer Leaders’ Seminar.  You must have a high grade point average and leadership ability.  Deadline is Apr. 1, 2010.

TUTORING (students must bring their books and other material)

·             The University of Guam’s AmeriCorps members are tutoring students in the following areas:  English, Math (Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics), organization skills (balancing schedules and classes), or help with homework.  Schedule is as follows in the Media Center:

Monday:                  8:00am – 2:30pm                                                        Tuesday:                8:00am – 2:30pm

Wednesday:                  8:00am – 2:30am                                                        Thursday:                8:00am – 2:30pm

Friday:                  8:00am – 2:30pm              

·             National Honor Society members are tutoring students in the core subjects and foreign languages.  Schedule is as follows: 

Wednesday & Thursday:              1:30pm – 2:30pm in the Media Center

Thursday:                                          11:00am – 11:30am in K206

Friday:                                                        11:00am – 11:30am in B206

·             ESL Students:  Lunch time tutoring is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays in C105.

ATTENTION TEACHERS:

·             Your nominations for January 2010 Student of the Month are due Feb. 4th.  Please place the form in the green folder on Michelle’s desk in the main office.

·             Mon., Feb. 8th is a make-up instructional day for JFKHS.  Please inform your students. 

·             Mon., Feb. 15th is Professional Staff Development Day; there are no classes for students.  Venue will be the Westin Resort Ballroom from 7am – 2pm.  Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided courtesy of CoreTech. 

·             From the Student Support Services:  Please do not recycle corridor passes.
