JOHN F. KENNEDY HIGH SCHOOL  •   SY 2009 - 2010

·                  John F. Kennedy High School’s mission is to develop our island students to become globally primed high achievers.

·                  Our ESLR’s: John F. Kennedy High School students will be responsible citizens, problem solvers, effective communicators, and technologically literate.
 

ATTENTION STUDENTS: 

·                  The Sports Banquet will be held on Sat., May 29th at the Onward Beach Resort from 5:30 – 11:30 P.M.  Purchase your ticket in H102 during break, lunch, or after school for $10 for rostered athletes and coaches, and $15 for all others.  There will be games, raffle prizes and entertainment provided; all are invited to attend.  See Mr. Hattig or any Facility Planning students if you have any questions. 
·                  Attention all JFK Athletes – voting for MVP, MIP, Coach of the Year, and Team of the Year Awards will be voted on at the Sports Banquet.  Please come and show your support. 
·                  This Fri., May 21st is an activity day entitled Islander “Spear It” Art Day.  The activity, hosted by the Fine and Practical Arts Department, will be filled with art, dance, and performances.  See any of your teachers for the program. 
·                  National Honor Society members are having a carwash on Sun., May 23rd from 8 A.M. – 4 P.M. at the JFK Tumon campus.  Tickets are pre-sold for $5 and may be purchased from any NHS officer or member.  Please show your support and get your car washed!  
·                  The JFK Nursing Club is hosting its end of the year lunch banquet in honor of the Nursing II class.  Come and join us in celebration at the Top of the Reef on Sun., May 30th from 11 A.M. – 3 P.M.  Tickets are $18 and may be purchased in E201 during break and lunch. 
·                  Inafa’ Maolek urgent meeting today in K205 during lunch.  All members please attend.
 

FROM THE STUDENT SUPPORT OFFICE: 

       Bags (such as back packs and gym bags) will not be permitted on campus starting Fri., May 21st through the rest of the school year.  Females will be allowed to carry a small hand sized bag no bigger than four by six inches.  No exceptions.  If you are an athlete and /or have gym, a small clear plastic bag will do for your clothes.  If you have equipment that you need to return to the athletic director, please do so immediately upon entry to the campus. 
       Dress Down Friday!  You deserve it students!  Remember that your behavior will determine the status of future activities.  Females - no strapless tops; no shorts, skirts, or dresses above the knee.  No alcohol or drug-related logos on your shirts.  All students - No open toe shoes or slippers may be worn.  Let’s have a great Friday! 
       Students are not allowed to be in the student parking lot during class time, break, or lunch.  Any student who violates this policy will have his/her parking decal revoked for the remainder of the school year.  

 

ATTENTION SENIORS: 

·                  SENIOR CLEARANCE FORMS ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR PICK UP AT THE STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES OFFICE. 
·                  Senior Parent Meeting will be held tonight (May 20th) at the Dededo Senior Center at 6:00 P.M..  Parents and seniors are highly encouraged to attend.  Important matters will be discussed. 
·                  All potential graduating Seniors on the 2010 graduation list -- If you fail one or more classes, you must continue to attend classes till June 2, 2010.  If you do not continue attending classes, you will be in violation of BP 330 and/or BP 411 and will incur an NC or be withdrawn from JFKHS for excessive absence. 
·                  Baccalaureate Mass will be on Sat., May 29th at the Santa Barbara Church in Dededo.  Show time is 9:00 A.M.  Start time is 10:00 A.M.  Practice will be on Fri., May 28th at the Santa Barbara Church at 3:30 P.M.  Please be prompt. 
·                  Graduation practice will be on June 2, 3, & 4 at the Ramsey Field from 7:30 A.M. – 12:00 P.M.  Be on time!

·             Businesswoman of the Year Scholarship – 3.0 GPA, financial need, activities, community service, and an essay.  Deadline is July 31.

TUTORING (students must bring their books and other material):   Last day of service is June 2nd.

·             The University of Guam’s AmeriCorps members are tutoring students in the following areas:  English, Math (Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics), organization skills (balancing schedules and classes), or help with homework.  Schedule is as follows in the Media Center:
Monday:               8:00 A.M. – 2:30 P.M.               Tuesday:                8:00A.M. – 2:30 P.M.
Wednesday:        8:00 A.M. – 2:30 P.M.               Thursday:                8:00 A.M. – 2:30 P.M.
Friday:                  8:00 A.M. – 2:30 P.M.

TEACHERS: 

· If you are planning a classroom party with your students, please reference Board Policy 705 that prohibits such activity.  Another consideration is the legal ramification the teacher will face if a student has an allergic food reaction or gets food poisoning.  JFKHS Administration will adhere to strict enforcement of this policy. 

· May 26th is the last day to use personal leave with the approval by Admin.  Any personal leave requests between May 27th – June 3rd must be approved by the Superintendent.   

· Freshmen Academy Re-structuring meeting will be held today (May 20th) from 1:40 – 2:40 P.M. in Mr. Chargualaf’s office. 

·             This Fri., May 21st is an activity day entitled Islander “Spear It” Art Day.  The activity, hosted by the Fine and Practical Arts Department, will be filled with art, dance, and performances.  A copy of the bell schedule and program was placed in your box on May 17th.
·             The last Professional Development Committee meeting for the school year will be held on Mon., May 24th in Mr. Chargualaf's office starting at 1:35 P.M.  Current committee members and interested teachers for next school year are asked to attend this meeting.  Agenda items:  action plan for SY 2010-11 and committee restructuring.

·             Classroom cleanup – The campus will be open on Sat., May 29th from 8 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. for teachers who need to clean out and/or remove personal items from the classroom.  

· Thought you were too late to join the free Tai Chi classes?  Visit J101on Tuesday or Thursday from 1:40 - 2:40 P.M.  There is no charge, no test, and no stress. 
· Please be reminded that progress reports for all special education students are required for your end of the school year clearance.  Please verify w/CRTs in L Building if you are unsure whether you have submitted all documents for clearance.

                  Eskuelan Puengi ends Thurs., May 20.  Senior grades due May 21; all other students’ grades are due May 26.

– Awards Ceremony at the amphitheater @ 5:30 P.M.
·    May 25th – Last day of school for seniors  (reminder that senior contract still enforced)
·    May 29th – Baccalaureate Mass at St. Barbara Church in Dededo at 10 A.M.
·    June 2, 3, & 4th – Graduation practice from 7:30 A.M. -12:00 P.M. (tentative) at the JFK Ramsey Field
·    June 5th – Graduation at the Ramsey Field from 4-6 P.M.
                  Half-Day Instructional / Accreditation Day on Fri., May 28.  Students released at 11:20 A.M.
                  Last day of classes / End of the 4th quarter:  Wed., June 2.
                  Teacher Workday:  Thurs., June 3rd
·      7-11 A.M.                   -  Teacher classroom cleanup / clearance
