  • John F. Kennedy High School’s mission is to develop our island students to become globally primed high achievers.
  • Our ESLR’s:  John F. Kennedy High School students will be responsible citizens, problem solvers, effective communicators, and technologically literate.
  • Meal applications – see your homeroom teacher for an application.  Submit your completed applications to the FOAS office in I-building as soon as possible.  Students currently on free/reduced list will remain so until Sept. 21, 2010.  These students must submit a new application to continue receiving these benefits.
  • If you are an expecting mother, please see Nurse Ballares in her office as soon as possible.
  • Do you have a big idea?  Want to have your own business?  Participate in this year’s Junior Achievement (JA) Company Program.   JA is sponsored by several local businesses.  For more information, see Ms. Perez in J106, call 487-4452, or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.   • GCC College Access Grant participants:  Tutoring services starts this week during lunch in the Media Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • CACGP Invitation:  Financial Planning seminar conducted by Bank of Guam will be held for CACGP students and parents tonight (Aug. 26th) from 7:00-9:00 P.M. at the GCC multi-purpose auditorium (MPA Bldg. 400).  Seminar is free of charge, and refreshments will be provided.
  • Future Educators of America (FEA) meeting on Thursday, Aug. 26th during lunch in J207.
  • Welcome back Islanders!  Let’s start this school year off right! The We Are You (W.A.Y.) Council is hosting its annual Back-to-School dance on Friday, Aug. 27th from 6:00 P.M. – 10:00 P.M. in the gym.  Advance ticket purchase is $3 – single and $5 – couple; cost at the door per person is $4.  For tickets, see your W.A.Y. officers or go to H103B during break or lunch.
  • Attention all Islander Golfers and interested students:  Meeting today (Thursday) starting at 11:20 A.M. (second half of lunch) in D102.  See Mr. Vasquez or Ms. Basilio for more information.
  • Tourism Hospitality Society Club is having its first meeting on Friday, Aug. 27th during lunch in J102.  All Lodging Management Program and Prostart students are encouraged to attend.
  • 11th and 12th graders interested in taking the ASVAB in September, see Mr. Ballares in the Counseling Office.
  • Interested 9th, 10th, and 11th graders college-bound students:  You are invited to attend the U.O.G. Upward Bound Open-House Information Meeting on Sat, Aug. 28th from 9:30-10:30 A.M. at the U.O.G. Cafeteria.

TEACHERS:

  • Speed limit on campus is 5MPH.  Consider safety first!
  • At 6:45 A.M., the National Anthem is played daily.  If you are in your vehicle during this time and you are driving through the paved parking area in front of the flag pole, please stop your vehicle until the Anthem ends.
  • The campus is locked and secured daily at 4 P.M. and on weekends.
  • Reminder:  September 6th is Labor Day Holiday -- No classes.
    • HOMEROOM TEACHERS:

1.      Please have your homeroom attendance folder ready for pick up by 7:25 A.M.

2.      Remind your students to turn in completed meal applications to the FOAS office.  Return unused applications to the FOAS office as well.

3.      Student Planners are ready for pickup starting today (Aug. 24th) after school.  See Melissa Meno in the FOAS office.

  • From Ms. Camacho, Assistant Principal of Curriculum

1. Counselors will continue calling students out for schedule changes this week.  All schedule changes made from this week forward will require add/drop teacher signatures.  Thank you for your patience and support as we work through schedule issues.

2. Course syllabi should be submitted to the AP of Curriculum, AP of Student Support (for Chamorru only) or AP of Special Programs for approval signature before they are distributed to students.  Please see the appropriate administrator for assistance if you have not submitted them in as of today.

3. Final No-Show Listing should be submitted to Clarissa Lizama at the Main Office by 2:00 PM on Friday, August 27th.

4. 1st Quarter Progress Reports will go out September 7, 2010.  Do what is necessary to prepare.

5. When completing the “Student grade change form,” please see Ms. Camacho for approval.  Do not leave the forms with any of the office clerks.

  • Literacy Project (LP) Updates:  The LP Star Chart will be set up in the main office by Sept. 1st.  For the quarter, select 3-5 literacy strategies from the “Literacy-to-go” packet.  Submit your documentation in the filing cabinet (top drawer) located in the I-building photocopy room.
  • Teachers’ PTEP prep period meetings on September 9th & 10th in the I-building teachers’ lounge.  Mandatory attendance for first year teachers and/or new teachers to JFKHS.  Veteran teachers are invited to attend, if necessary.
  • Christmas Party Committee members meeting today (Thursday) at 1:50 P.M. in the main office.
  • Faculty training on how to use the Xerox machine will be held on Sept. 1st and 2nd from 1:30-2:00 P.M. in the photocopy room.  All teachers are encouraged to attend either training date.
  • From Melissa Meno, Admin. Officer:  Please send students whose names are listed on the Obligation Roster to the FOAS office.  Students need to pick up their parent letter regarding their obligations.  Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
  • Faculty meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 1st from 1:40-2:40 P.M. in E103 & E104.  Please mark your calendar.
